Risk Management

Updates related to service delay, special instructions for reporting event-related damage

9/3: From Safelite AutoGlass: We are currently tracking Dorian closely and are making the necessary arrangements to have additional staffing in place when the storm makes landfall. At the present time, that is expected to be Tuesday morning.

  • Using the Safelite catastrophe communication plan, Safelite will have over 50 additional full-time employees on call.
  • A plan for additional staffing at Safelite is ready should the event require it.
  • Safelite will open the Rio Rancho, New Mexico and Chandler, Arizona operations early to create a buffer of capacity at 8:00 am to offset any potential surges in call volume.
  • Safelite has offered unlimited extra hours and overtime across all operations for Tuesday.

9/5: Impacted service levels in the Carolinas:

  • South Carolina: Service is restricted to emergencies only in Hilton Head, Beaufort, and Myrtle Beach. Services are suspended in Charleston and Summerville.
  • North Carolina: Only offering local, within-city towing in the New Bern area. Services are restricted to emergencies only in the Wilmington area. Roadside agents are being kept informed of the storm's progress and are instructing drivers accordingly.

9/3: When it comes to roadside assistance, hurricanes have the immediate impact of reducing volume as the areas in the path issue evacuation orders, travel bans or a general state of emergency. NSD has taken the appropriate precautions to avoid extended hold times. As of now, the estimated time of arrivals for roadside assistance in the state of Florida is approximately 52 minutes (normal wait time).

Although, roadside service may be unavailable in some areas if and when the hurricane makes landfall due to widespread damage, blocked roads, loss of phone service and evaluation orders. Fuel delivery service may be unavailable in some areas due to fuel shortages.

Note, should Dorian makes landfall, our staff has been instructed to avoid requesting non-urgent roadside assistance in affected areas. and to redirect emergency calls to local authorities. Anything that is not urgent will be asked to contact us back once the storm has passed.

Please note, roadside service providers will be limited to emergency services only.
